Another Class at parsons!!! and High School stuff....

I know it seems that I have abandoned this blog.........But I haven't. I am taking another course at Parsons, and it's going great. I'm taking fashion design, which is what I want my career to be. My friend, Faye is in my parsons class once again, and we are both good in the arts.
There is one girl in my class who is amazingly good, when it comes to Fashion. She's my age, french, and obviously she will get far in Fashion. Although I don't know her name, she seems nice. She's considered a friend but, still my competition ;D
Classes are on Saturday. We start at 10 a.m, and end at 1 p.m. We do things like sketching, and painting. We aren't doing so much because it's only the beginning but, soon we will be sewing and designing and creating our very own garments to display at parsons. During classes, we often talk about who we are as designers and our aesthetics. I always have something to say.
Lately, i've been really busy because of high school admissions. I've spent weeks, studying for the SHSAT (Specialized high school admissions test) exam, and the Bard high school test. I finally took the SHSAT exam today at, Brooklyn Technical High school at 7:30 a.m!!! It was a zoo. I was constantly being pushed around by both adults and students. One of the teachers flashed a very strong light in my face, and gave me a bad look when I waved at one of my friends. All of the testing is over but, I still have to work on my portfolio, write some essays, get recommendations, go to tours and attend interviews. Ugh, so much work!!! It's like applying to middle school all over again except this time, its not middle school....IT'S HIGH SCHOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Parsons: school of design summer art class!

Last week, I started an art class at Parsons. I'm taking the painting and drawing course and so far, it's been great. I've developed some great pieces for my portfolio for applying to high school, class is relaxing and I've made two great friends named Faye and Lucia.
Classes start at 9:00 a.m on weekdays. I feel so grown up when I am asked to show my parsons ID when as I enter the building. My class sadly only lasts two weeks, I really don't want it to end!!!!!
My first day at parsons was crazy! I hauled around a huge portfolio that was bigger then me! It contained my canvas pad, news print pad, sketch book (small), white paper pad, pallet paper pad, and paint pallet. I also had a tool box that had all my paint, linseed oil, galked oil, pencils, charcoal, and eraser. During the parsons orientation, some of the teachers there handed out parsons tote bags. I carried it around all the time but unfortunately, I got oil paint all over it and it looks like a disaster. The inside of the bag, is even worse.
I would arrive home covered in oil paint which isn't easy to get off clothing. I destroyed two shirts so, I finally started wearing big and old t-shirts owned by my dad so that I wouldn't ruin my clothing. I have no idea how but, sometimes I end up with paint down my shirt or on my eye brows. It's weird, I know.
My new friends are great. We are always laughing together and being weird. All three of us are both talented and awesome. We all have lockers next to each other and we sit together all in one row in class. I'm going to miss them both when our parsons class is over this Friday. Lucia goes back to Mexico and Faye doesn't live as close to me as I though she did. But what ever, we are all Facebook friends!!
This Friday is my exhibition. It's going to be great I can't wait for everyone to see my work! Too bad that Friday is my last day of parsons though. Hopefully, I can go back in the fall. This time, I will take fashion design because as everyone knows, I want to be a fashion designer when I grow up.

7/27/10 Fashion design internship

Today was so awesome! Laurieanne let me get my own lunch today, and sent me to starbucks to get coffee for her, and Terra. I got to organize bins and binders, I helped rearrange Laurieanne's work space, put tags on garments, made photo copies, sketched, labeled things, grabbed things from racks, and I even got to name some of the clothing. I was in charge of writing all of the names down on paper. Brooke would hold up a piece of clothing and together, we would name the clothing. Everyone would give in ideas.
At the end of the day, Laurieanne sent me to the back of the studio where a bunch of boxes were. She said I could pick something that I like but, I like everything! Most of the clothing were big on me but, i've chosen 3 so far that I like and will try on next time I go to work, which will be thursday :)

My fashion designing future :)

I'm glad that I am an intern for a fashion designer. I'm learning a lot about the fashion world. When I grow up, I want to be a fashion designer. So, being and intern and getting started on my career early is great.  I wanted to be a fashion designer when I was young but, then I began focussing more on visual arts like drawing and painting. Then a while later, my dad took me to a fashion photo shoot and I automatically got inspired and came back to the idea of becoming a fashion designer. I love fashion, and I enjoy dressing up all fancy like where ever I go.
I was also inspired by my mom. Her fashion illustrations are beyond fabulous and I sometimes practice and warm up before I draw by looking at her work at her website. My dad and aunt are involved in the fashion business too. My dad is photographer and sometimes takes pictures of Laurieanne Gilner's work. My aunt is a graphic designer, and I sometimes come to work with her and help out!

7/26/10 Fashion design Internship

I just came back from my job today, and it was so much fun! I Organized boxes, folded fabrics, printed things out, and sorted things. This time, my dad took me to the studio. Once we got off the train at 34th street, my dad told me to lead the way to Laurieanne's studio.
I was so excited to come back again, the work that I do is so fun! This time, I got to answer the door. Usually, answering the door is done by Terra since she is closer to the door but, Laurieanne asked me to open the door whenever the bell rang. Laurieanne had me sort out her folders which, I did very carefully since I didn't want to mess up. The first time around, I had 5 large piles in front of me which were labeled as, animal prints, geometric prints, dates/deliveries, solid colored fabrics and floral prints. Later on, I divided up the solid colored fabrics by their colors. Soon, I had an extra 13 folders in front of me labeled as different colors.
The day went by pretty fast after lunch. I got really into my last task. I folded fabrics, and placed them in different boxes. When i looked at the time on my cell phone, it was already 5:50! I was almost done with my work, and wanted to finish before my aunt picked me up. It was perfect, I finished just in time and had time to put the tops back on the plastic boxes and even put away some of them under Laurieanne's desk!

7/23/10 Fashion Design Internship

Yesterday,  I went to work as an intern for a fashion designer. I wasn't nervous at all. I was ready, and couldn't wait. I took the subway, looking fabulous with my sophisticated denim shorts that were high waisted, and my white top with a braided black belt and black-strapped sandals. My aunt felt the need to change once she saw me in the morning but I dress in a similar style everyday. The designer's studio is in Manhattan. Her name is Laurianne Gilner, and she does casual  contemporary designs that are super awesome. I was assigned different tasks like, putting tags on various garments and photo copying fabrics and dresses for samples to send to India. It took a while to complete my tasks but, It was so fun.
The Day ended with me leaving the studio to get coffee for Laurianne, Terra and I at star bucks. I had everyone's order on a small piece of paper. The line at star bucks was long but fortunately, It went by fast.."TWO GRANDE ICED COFFEES AND ONE TALL ICED LATTE PLEASE!!!!!", I shouted. The service was surprisingly fast. I arrived back at the studio with a tray that carried three coffees, 3 splenda's sugar, and of course 3 straws. The entire day was great, but at exactly 5:00, my mother arrived to pick me up.....
